Blackletter is a recent Dublin based initiative set up by Niall Flaherty, Cliona
Harmey and Alan
Butler to create a collaborative publishing environment for Irish artists. We advocate an open-source DIY culture for interaction and collaboration, allowing for the exchange of knowledge, information and skills, at a distance and on different schedules. We aim to create opportunities for interaction for younger marginalised and emerging artists, who are less well catered for by traditional publishing methods. Project 1: The Blackletter Website The Blackletter website was built during a 6 month studio residency in The Temple Bar Gallery and Studies in the Summer of 2006. With News, Calendar, Links and Feeds sections, it has quickly evolved into one of the best known and most popular arts community website in Ireland. View the website here. Project 2: 10x10x10 ‘10x10x10’, is a Blackletter skills exchange project
which followed an open call for 10 people interested in delivering a skill
they had
to a small group. While the name for the project refers to the ten
workshops delivered
by ten people over ten weeks, it also alludes to the creation of a
new space for the facilitation of knowledge exchange and peer interaction
as per Blackletter’s
mission. The project includes a range of workshops both online and
off, with both practical and experiential outcomes. Project 3: ArtFinder ‘ArtFinder’, is Blackletter's interactive mapping project which uses online mapping tools to create a dynamic archive of art projects which have taken place outside the gallery. Artists who have created works of a temporary, ephemeral or location based nature can add a marker to an online geographical map to publish a record of their projects. To be launched March 2008 |
