Conspicuous Consumption - After Mondrian

Conspicuous Consumption - After Mondrian
by Niall Flaherty

Conspicuous Consumption is the name of a new sculptural piece I've contributed to a show in The Draiocht Arts Centre called 'X-MASS the spot', curated by Nevan Lahart.

Small box files have been fitted with battery powered fans, which were stripped from old computer cases. The fans are operated from the switch on the front, the fans are protected, as are our fingers by a grill at the back. The boxes sit atop modern office style furniture. These (like the virusLife boxes) are objects in an array, a metaphor for further examples of themselves. Easily copyable viral machines.
