Obsession = Supply - Demand |
In response to a series of discussions with Jochen Gerz concerning the themes of 'Love, Art, Obsession, Fame (Money)', as part of the MA in Fine Art at NCAD, I have selected Obsession, and it's relationship to the concept of 'Supply and Demand' for further enquiry. My intention is to create a piece whose purpose is to be supplied only and for as long as it is demanded. I decided to create a webpage to help question the issue of Art as something which is best produced to provide for a demand. A webpage is not an object, it doesn't occupy conventional space, produce noticeable pollution, and wouldn't normally be considered in the same way as an Art Object. Below is a hypertext link, leading to a webpage that does not exist. By clicking the link, the processes within a computer server you cannot see, will create a webpage that will only exist until the link is clicked again. On the page will be a unique number whose purpose is simply to prove that the process is successful. The numbers will be consecutive, allowing that each entirely unique Art-Web-Page-Object, can be viewed as a numbered limited edition print/publication, the limit of which can be expressed as n, where n=supply=demand. To produce this temporary installation in your Browser Window just Click on the hyper-text below. -- or -- To produce a lasting document, Right-click the hyper-text, select 'Save As...', and Save the file to your computer. (This is the less sustainable solution.) n=supply=demand |
